NEW SONG!!!

I recorded a song called “Hang in the Heat” last month. The seeds of this song came from the end credits music in the Craig of the Creek episode “Fall Anthology” and the subsequent autumn episodes. Throughout this cool year, I’m sure we’ve all gone through wild emotional ups and downs and it’s been a trip to be making music for a cartoon throughout all of it, trying to escape the darkness and create a good feeling.
Sometimes when I write a short piece of music for the show, it almost immediately starts blooming into a song in my head. “Hang in the Heat” is the first one that got all the way there. The parts of this song were rattling around my head as I ran masked miles in the summer nights. Once I got into recording it, I was challenging myself to deliberately avoid any lyrics that would bring the song to a negative place but also not writing something that felt like ignoring the world around me.
And then once it was done I was like, hey, our drummer Kevin set up his drums to record at home. “Hey Kevin!!! Wanna play on this?!?!?!”
It is coming out today on Comp For A Cause, which benefits Trunk Space in Phoenix. Trunk Space is a rad all-ages, non-profit music & art space that I’ve played many times. I love ‘em and they’re a great DIY venue. Thanks Emily for asking me to contribute a song to this!! It is also available for free on 2020 DUMP!

MIKE HUGUENOR & THE UNCANNY X’ED MEN LIVE IN SAN JOSE
Hey, this summer Death Rosenstock guitarist Mike Huguenor got some friends together to perform some songs from his new really great all-guitar record X’ed. Me & Kevin from the band played as well as Morgan Herrell from Hard Girls and Sim Castro from Albert Square & Kitty Kat Fan Club. We all played guitars, and Kevin played two acoustic guitars with a kick pedal and some brushes. We recorded it at District Recording in San Jose, CA. And now this video is here! And an EP of the full live performance comes out Friday! Oh that reminds me…
THE BRUCE LEE BAND
Might as well tell ya real quick, I’ve spent the past few days at District Recording in San Jose working on some new Bruce Lee Band songs. The Bruce Lee Band is a ska/punk band Mike Park has had for years, and its current incarnation includes me & Kevin and Dan Potthast. So it’s a lot of us from the band making ska. HELL YEAH. I’m stoked about the new shit, but if you don’t know about the BLB, why not check out some of the other music we’ve made over the last few years?!
OK THAT’S IT BYE ENJOY THE NEW ONE!!!
